The fish and chips here are beautifully cooked. Service is excellent and efficient.TripAdvisor review
Proper fish & chips on the harbour, since 1987.
Southwold's harbour-side chippy on Blackshore Quay — cod, haddock and plaice fried to order in rapeseed oil, best eaten on the benches with the boats going past. Voted Suffolk's best fish and chip shop by EADT readers.

A look around
This is where your own photos go — the fish coming out of the fryer, the benches on the quay, the boats going past.
Frying on the harbour since 1987
Mrs T's has been frying on Blackshore Quay since 1987 — a takeaway on Southwold Harbour where the benches and tables outside look over the estuary, the moored boats and the livestock grazing nearby. Fish is cooked to order in rapeseed oil, so on a busy afternoon there's a queue and a wait of up to twenty minutes. Regulars will tell you it's worth every minute.
In May 2023 the shop was destroyed by a fire when gas cylinders exploded in the early hours; eight fire crews attended. Nearly two years of rebuilding later, the team reopened the doors in March 2025, and Southwold had its harbour chippy back. Since then EADT readers have voted it the best fish and chip shop in Suffolk, and TripAdvisor has placed it in the top 10% of restaurants worldwide with a Travellers' Choice award.
